Bulletin: School News
Since 1939, the mission of this parish to spread the Good News of God has been echoed in the school halls, as well as, in the hearts and minds of its’ graduates. Again, for the 70th time the doors of Immaculate Conception School will open (on September 2, 2008) to teach the students about their faith and challenge each student academically to be successful.
There is energy in the air about this coming school year. Parents, students and teachers are excited to get involved in or be active participants in learning. Parents are welcomed to share their time and talents for the success of our school in many activities which support learning. Students embrace learning and are engaged in many important activities and decisions in the school, such as being members of the Student Council or their involvement in the variety of service opportunities. Teachers are excited to share their knowledge, their love of their faith, and learning with each student. They want to bring alive our faith and challenge each student to be successful. This energy or excitement has allowed ICS to exceed its enrollment projections for the upcoming school year!
The theme for this school year is ICS Celebrates Service! As the teachers implement our new religion program, we will expand our activities to enhance our values and service to others from assisting our local food pantries to extending our hands in partnership with children in Africa and Mexico. The teachers, parents and families of ICS want to invite parishioners to our weekly all school Liturgies (Thursday mornings at 8:30 AM)-a time to worship together and share faith experiences.
It will be a year that will bring together our continued efforts to ensure a quality Catholic School at ICS. This year our activities will also focus on our school’s accreditation requirements. As an accredited school we continue to challenge ourselves to design learning strategies (strategic plan) to improve learning. It is not only important to have new textbooks, but the foundations of a solid curriculum based upon state and national standards; skilled teachers to design learning strategies for each learner; then assess learning to engage students in a successful learning opportunity which is integrated with our faith or Catholic identity.
As we prepare for our 75th celebration of ICS in 2014, we must continue to support the vision that began so long ago. The torch has been passed to us to pass continue the tradition and values of our faith.
God Bless,
Mr. Krainz
Principal
Updated News:
The IC Historical Society team has been formed. Dee Barrett, Mary Beth Ronza and Teri Seawell will collect, research and prepare for our school’s 75th birthday. Currently, they are contacting people to collect oral history about the school and parish, as well as pictures or other school memorabilia.
Robots are Coming! Robots are Coming! Mr. Mike Bianchi has volunteered to share his time and talents by heading up our First Lego Teams. First Lego League is an exciting and fun robotics program that will ignite student enthusiasm for discovery, science, math and technology. The program involves teams of students who research and solve a real-world problem based upon the challenge theme (i.e., saving coral reefs); present their research and solutions and build an autonomous robot using math, technology and engineering skills to solve a maze of tasks the robot needs to accomplish.
Learnia National Pilot Initiative: ICS will be part of a Diocesan program to introduce Learnia to its school. Learnia is a web based assessment system. This is an on-going formative assessment system, based upon national learning and curriculum standards. In previewing this assessment system, I was excited to see how we can use this system to improve our assessment and thus instructional practices/strategies for our students. A team of teachers will be trained over the summer so we can implement the system this fall.
