Jill S. Moes, Ph.D. represents a commitment to growth and excellence within the school’s Pre-K to grade eight academic program
Jill S. Moes, Ph.D.

Columbia Heights, MN. March 9, 2010—Immaculate Conception Catholic School is very pleased to announce the appointment of Jill Moes, Ph.D. as its new principal.  Dr. Moes has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and a Master’s of Science in Education-School Psychology.  Ideally qualified as an administrator to a program encompassing Pre-kindergarten, Elementary School, and Middle School, she carries a licensure in School Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, obtained an Elementary Principal, Secondary Principal and Superintendent Licensure from St. Mary’s University, and was awarded a Doctorate in Philosophy in Educational Administration from Lacrosse University, where she graduated Cum Laude.

“As a community, Immaculate Conception Catholic School has made a commitment to achieving excellence in all areas.  We will respond to the needs of all children within the school, and look to Dr. Moes to lead us forward into new areas of outreach, academic enrichment, and continuing the tenets of Catholic education in the Northern and Northeast suburbs of Minneapolis,” explained the pastor, Father Thomas Kunnel, TOR.  Dr. Moes’ work experience includes being an assistant principal at Woodbury High School, an assistant principal at Woodbury Junior High, and the District School Psychologist for the Hastings Public School District.  At Hastings she also was involved in Crisis Counseling, coordinating district-wide crisis plans, and coordinating district testing for Minnesota state testing requirements.

“The hiring of Dr. Moes confirms the ability of a Catholic School in a first ring suburb to provide top level education with its diverse needs and missions,” continued Father Kunnel, “and reflects the dedication and quality of each and every teacher at this school.  With our current faculty and Dr. Moes’ experience, Immaculate Conception Catholic School is committed to the future of the children in our neighborhood, providing a quality learning environment and daily prayerful experiences to each and every student, and their families.  We consider ourselves fortunate to gain such an amazing principal for this school.”

In addition to her exceptional academic qualifications, Dr. Moes also has experience in grant-writing, curriculum design, student guidance and development, and parenting classes that will benefit the community at large.  Other accomplishments of Dr. Moes’ worth noting include her 1995 nomination for School Psychologist of the Year, and involvement in two National School of Excellence Awards at Hastings Middle School. In 1997, Moes was also awarded the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Education Award for creation of the Junior High At Risk Student Committee.

On a more personal note, Dr. Moes, a resident of Hastings, has three children, the oldest of whom will begin college in the fall.  She has been a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, and for the past 20 years has served a sacristan and Eucharistic minister for the parish.

Dr. Moes will officially begin her employment at Immaculate Conception Catholic School on Thursday, April 1.  However, the public, parents and parishioners will have the opportunity to meet her at the ICS open house held on Saturday, March 20 from noon until 3:00pm.  This event is open to the public; please join us as we welcome Dr. Moes to Immaculate Conception School!
